Why buy Japanese?
There are advantages in choosing a Japanese car over a UK model, firstly the obvious reason of price. New cars in Japan are cheaper than new models purchased in the UK hence the opportunity cost between new and nearly new cars usually means they purchase new vehicles from the factory.
The Japanese also have a greater turnover of vehicles due to several factors.
When a vehicle is first registered in Japan, it comes with a 3 year Shaken. This is the equivalent to the British MOT. When it expires, the vehicle must be re-tested. This is the most stringent test of this type in the world. The cost for this retest is around £1250.
Further re-tests are required every two years and usually cost more. Because of the shaken most Japanese consider it better to sell and re-purchase a new vehicle. There are Japanese dealer incentives offering excellent deals to encourage consumers to always trade up for a new car. As a result, Japanese consumers buy new cars on a regular basis.
The condition of Japanese cars’ are somewhat better when compared to UK second hand vehicles for several reasons, firstly no salt is used on the majority of roads during winter and hence bodywork is kept in superior condition.
Also quality car ownership in Japan in a tangible symbol of wealth and hence they place great emphasis on the specification of the cars they own and ensure its thorough maintenance and checks are not neglected.
The traffic in Japan is generally rather slow, the congestion caused by sheer volumes of vehicle users and the bad infrastructure for such volumes. The speed limit on normal roads is 24Mph and the tolls on motorways are phenomenally expensive, so this and the fact that Japanese do not venture outside of their own prefecture too often means low mileage on most import cars.
So the combination of low mileage, perfect operating conditions, meticulous owners and low car prices enables us to bring you some of the best automotive examples the globe has to offer. |
